Father and son

A boy and his father move to a new place for a fresh start. Typical story of a boy who feels ripped away from his former life, and a father who finds it hard to communicate with his son. The small family of two struggle through their predicament, and are forced into normalcy as the boy enters a new school and the father takes on a new job.

The boy develops a friendship with a young girl in his school who lives close to his house. They walk home together, and have long talks about fun things, sad things and almost anything. Nothing is said about the girl apart from that she is a nice person, who enjoys the company of this boy.

One day the boy becomes bullied by boys in his school, and he rushes off home without seeing the girl. He finds solace inside a shed behind their house, but the girl later finds him there, with his face, streaked with tears, buried in his hands while he sat on the cold ground. He then confides in the girl about how he always gets treated this way, even in the other schools that he had attended. He relates a story about an embarrassing situation he was involved in the most previous school. The girl listens intently.

They hear a noise from outside the shed, then look out to find some boys from their school have followed them home, and have eavesdropped on the boy telling his story. They run away laughing and screaming "Ah now we know that was you, don't worry that is the exact same version of the rumor that we already know! Only now, we know that it's true!"

The boy then runs away even more embarrassed in the situation and leaves the girl calling his name. He runs inside his house and locked his room.

His father returns home to find him in his bedroom, and asked if he could have a talk with him. He finally opens his bedroom door and lets his father in.

The father starts to tell him a story. There was a boy in another city who had a father who sold nwwspapers in a sidewalk outside a grocery store. The boy would come with his father when he went to sell papers, coz they had no home and no one else can look after him. While his father sold papers, he sometimes wandered off to play.

Now the owner of the grocery store was a mean man, who wouldn't let the boy's father sell newspapers inside his store, because his father cannot pay for the rent. He disliked having the boy's father sell newspapers outside the store, but he thought there was no one harmed in this way anyway, and let it slip for now as there was no reason to throw him away.

One day the boy got bored of his playing with rocks and bottles in the sidewalk, and wandered into the grocery store. He had forgotten that he hung his dirty shoes around his neck with he shoelaces, so he perhaps looked more shabby than he had imagined. So while he wandered into the store, he had wandered to the freezer section unknowingly, a tiny boy in shabby clothes who reeked of smelly feet.

There was a moment where the boy saw a rat run across the room, which startled him a bit. Then he realised he should kill the rat. Now he became aware of the shoes hung about his neck, and he held on to one of them ready to pounce on the rat when it shows.

Then he saw the rat jump towards the freezers. He threw the shoe in its direction, and the shoe hit the top glass cover of one of the freezers, shattering it to pieces. This brought terror to his body that he almost peed his pants.

The grocery shop owner was right in front of him. He thought about hitting the boy, but instead stormed out of the shop, went straight after the boy's father. The shop owner picked up a bunch of newspapers, and tore them to pieces. It wasn't soon after that he had slashed and destroyed every paper the boy's father was selling.
